A good woman is hard to find plot

In his sophomore thriller, director Abner Pastoll trades the sun-drenched, Hitchcockian vibes of his debut Road Games for a gritty realism more befitting this Irish-set story that's equal parts Ken Loach, Guy Ritchie, and Park Chan Wook. It's a kitchen sink drama about a grief struck single mother struggling to set her family right following a tragedy; it's a pulpy crime caper involving stolen drugs and bad timing; and it's also a brutal revenge tale. While the film originates from a screenplay by BAFTA winner Ronan Blaney, it comes down to Pastoll to glue all of these elements together in a compelling way, and it seems as though he bet it all on setting a laser focus on the character of Sarah played by Sarah Bolger in a brave performance , who could ground the viewer in recognizable domestic life, while chaos and danger swirls elsewhere, inching ever closer with each scene until a violent climax becomes inevitable. In this regard, his bet paid off, as Bolger shines in the film, rising like a phoenix from grief to empowerment in a naturalistic manner that never feels rushed or forced by Pastoll's hand. The film begins with a mysterious prologue, a glimpse of the violent story to come.

One day, a local dealer Simpson breaks into her home. Fearful for the wellbeing of her son and having zero confidence in the police helping them, she allows him to. He keeps coming back. Then one day her life gets rocked when a man named Tito breaks into her house and warns her that no harm will come to her and her children as long as he can stash drugs for a few days until he can get rid of them. The evolution of her character, from a meek and quiet individual to one that can stand her ground and use violence when necessary, is nothing less than superb. I noticed it quite early on in the film and was taken aback by how perfectly it fit with the unfolding narrative. There are moments of heavy bass that lead up to the fast-paced instrumental rhythm which beautifully accompanies the more dramatic moments. Speaking of that narrative, the writing is tight and sharp, never straying into territory that seems unneeded to the story at hand.

‘A Good Woman Is Hard to Find’ Review: Driven to Extremes

Sarah Sarah Bolger is a good person in a terrible situation. What starts out as a temporary refuge becomes a prime spot to stash drugs and even hang out. Under the threat of violence and distrusting of the police, Sarah feels like she has no choice but to let this criminal in and out of her home as he pleases. Sometimes a good woman must do bad things. Reminiscent of a European take on South Korean vengeance stories, Director Abner Pastoll rewards genre lovers with a brutal crescendo that is unexpected yet wholly gratifying.

Posted on Monday, September 2nd, by Rafael Motamayor. Director Abner Pastoll made a great first impression with his debut feature Road Games , the bilingual, twisted tale set in France and starring Barbara Crampton. The result is a kitchen sink drama, a pulpy crime movie, and a bloody revenge tale all held together by one hell of a performance. Motherhood is often glamorized in Hollywood, with portrayals of superpowered and pristine women who manage to balance work and family without breaking a sweat.

We then dart back in time to meet protagonist Sarah Sarah Bolger : a twenty-something, single mother, battling grief following the recent death of her husband. Local gang leader Leo Edward Hogg takes centre stage as the plot unravels. Despite him seeming stereotypical, he is brilliantly played.
