Chingay Parade is surely one of the best experiences I have had in Singapore. It is a street parade with spectacular costumes, dancers, music, pyrotechnics and cultural performances. You can literally feel the whole country come together at this parade which is the largest of its kind in Asia and according to some can be favourable compared to the Rio Carnival. The word Chingay is equivalent to the Mandarin zhuang yi (妆艺), which means “the art of costume and masquerade” in the Hokkien dialect.Well Brazil is too far and the images may not have been safe for the workplace so I decided to stay put at Chingay.I knew from the photographs of friends who had been earlier that it is a great opportunity for any shutterbug.
Here are some images I managed to captured and hope you find them interesting enough to add this event to your itinerary. So here goes:
All roads lead to Chingay.
Some film nostalgia on the way.
No performance anxiety for these pretty young ladies.
The spectacular backdrop of the Gardens by the Bay and Marina Bay Sands.
And the pompoms are ready ..
Is that the girl I used to share my noodles with 60 years back in school?
This guy has been the MC at Chingay for last 8 years but each year its a new beast.
We even brought along a Marvelous man.
Starting with One People- what a wonderful theme!
The Prime Minister of Singapore declaring the festivities open.
In the year of the horse, Pegasus is invited too.
I am thinking Kansas Cow Parade
Wonder if the ancient Chinese heard of the Trojan horse
He’s got what it takes!
These eyes have seen a lot..
As they say in the language of the Opera,”It ain’t over till the fat lady sings”.
Waiting in the shadows.
No this one is not sent by Obama, its just snapping us and I snapped back.
Poetry in motion!
Why so serious buddy?
Maybe the dude in green is not sure if his kids should go to NUS?
The costumes from Indonesia are nothing short of spectacular!
Hands free driving Indian style.
These ladies had their choreography perfect!
Yes it does, especially when the birth rate is kinda low..
The flyer looked just that much more colourful.
I was not alone..
The American damsels.
A shower of confetti ..
And a some fireworks too..
And a cheerful goodbye from the wonderful Chingay team!!
